Arugmentive Essay .

“ The Right To Stay Home”

In February of 2020 The United States of America was inflicted with despair and tragedy. The world as we know it has been changed due to a flu like virus called the coronavirus short for “COV-19”. This virus is causing a widespread by attacking the immune system of many unknowingly. The symptoms of this virus   are coughing, a high fever, and chest pains just to name a few of the major symptoms. The scary part is that the signs may take up to fourteen days to appear after coming in direct contact with someone who has the corona virus before the symptoms may even appear. The nature of this virus is causing a major pandemic in America as the number of those being affected are rising daily. Along with the number of death tolls in America. As the President of the United States of America urges many citizen’s to quarantine ourselves and practice social distancing, so that the spread of this disease will not be as rapid. Many still continue define the odds and refuse to obey the ordinances given to protect themselves and others. Across several media outlets I have seen the saying “Let’s do this together, help me help you by staying home. I know that a vaccine hasn’t been found yet, but I do believe the more we only travel when necessary the disease won’t be as easy to spread.

Necessary according to the Webster dictionary means to required to be done, needed or essential to daily life. During this pandemic this definition is very vital. As our Governor Brian Kemp has order the closing of many barbershops, gyms movies and the dinning in many restaurants to only allow essential workers to be in place. Many would argue to the fact that education is vital, grooming and even entertainment is vital. In the definition that Webster provided required to be was given as a major part of being necessary. As the ordinance was given staying home unless it is vital is really something that isn’t just implied but required. I am in totally agreement that many of us may have our views as adult tax paying citizens. We have choices and may opinions that are governed by your morals and beliefs, however we must do what is necessary to ensure the that the health of ourselves and others are what’s important at this time. Would you put a gun to your head and play Russian Roulette knowing that your life could be ended by one simple moment of an unthoughtful act?  Though this example seems intense going outside the guidelines of the warnings of the government and not adhering to the hygiene instructions could be the same drastic measures.

The United States of America is a country that has many rights. Black people have fought for the right to vote after slavery was over. Women have had to fight for years to have the right to have jobs that were original for men such as a pilot. The LBGT community has fought to have the right to be consider legally married in the court of law in many states and some other immigrants are even fighting as we speak to not be shipped back to a place they don’t call home because of a piece of paper when they  have worked on American soil  forever. American has many avenues of freedoms. The freedom of speech, the freedom of justice and religion. I understand that and I take major pleasure in all the privileges our culture has allotted us. However. I believe that this has postured the hearts and minds of many Americans so much that they have become indirectly selfish. In a world where many have legally access to obtain views and rights. Is this really helpfully in times such as this pandemic? I believe this is why it is so challenging for many people to stay home, and follow the guidelines even with their health  is in danger .In the minds of some Americans  this order can produce a feeling of being powerless  and  even make some feel their rights have been taking away. I believe this is why the rapid growth in people contracting this terrifying disease and the alarming number of deaths tolls rise.  After watching the news one day this is the only logic reasoning I can fathom on as to why many leave the house for reason that are unessential.

I know that the Bill of Rights were designed because our nation is a nation who is prone to give equality and justice for all. I am all for every citizen of America being treated fairly and having fair rights however our nation is facing one of the hardest economically times we have faced. Colleges and schools are forced to close making graduation and prom impossible for seniors who have earned the right to walk across the stage and be proud before their families. Bereaved families are having to grief and can’t have proper memorial with friends and distant family members, because funerals can only have less than ten a people in.  Having a funeral at graveside in order to practice safe social distancing isn’t a choice family members never thought they would have to make. Parents across this nation have filed unemployment due to the closing of many jobs. Many still have[ to pay rent and tried to feed their kids and can’t because their jobs have closed during the massive outbreak of this disease. Rights are rights and freedoms are freedoms but in this pandemic,  I believe one of the biggest ethically rights we have is to stay home and help stop this virus from attacking America so forcefully.

  1. Hi Lakeyla,

Overall this was a great essay and I think you did an excellent job of developing your argument! However, I do have a few suggestions for you.

First off, I would focus on creating a good thesis sentence that will wrap up your entire argument. This sentence should be the last sentence in your introductory paragraph. In your case, you would use this sentence to state that you believe it is our duty to stay home and protect our country during these uncertain times.

I would also include sources of what has happened in the past (such as previous pandemics) that could be used to explain why it is best to stay home, which would strengthen your argument.

Overall, you did a great job. Best of luck, feel free to email me with any questions at thorton1@stallions.abac.edu!
